I first went to Puerto Vallarta back in the year 2000. I was in Cuba at the time and decided to make the relatively short trip over to my American cousin’s wedding there. It was fantastic. I recall amazing breakfasts of huevos rancheros, chilaquiles and banana pancakes, swimming pools everywhere and abundant margaritas on offer from dangerously early in the day. One of my strongest memories of this wedding in Vallarta (as it is known by the locals) is of the sunsets there. Puerto Vallarta is situated on the Pacific side of Mexico meaning that the sun sets directly over sea – it is unforgettable. I now live in Mexico (I recently moved here from London) and have a great friend who lives in Puerto Vallarta (we met at boarding school in Dorset, England and somehow both of us ended up living in Mexico). Finding great places to get married in Vallarta is not hard - there are countless villas to rent on the hill above the town centre as well as some pretty swanky luxury hotels spread over the bay. The prettiest hotels in town are Casa Dulce Vita, Hotel Suites Nadia and Casa Amorita but if you are into being in a larger and more resort type place then there are Grand Velas, Casa Velas, St Regis Punta Mita, the Four Seasons, Punta Mita and of course many many more.
